New Program, Spring 2025 - Ellington Youth Team Tennis
Ellington Youth Team Tennis is a program targeted to move youth tennis development away from individualized tennis lessons to a "learn-as-you-play" team format much like Little League Baseball, Softball and Youth Lacrosse. Players will learn and practice tennis fundamentals while learning game-play format at the same time. As players develop and improve with their strokes, they will also improve their comfort and proficiency with playing singles and doubles in a team format.
This program will be held from early April to early June at the Schwartz Park Tennis Courts, adjacent to Ellington High School.
Format: Teams comprised of Boy & Girl players in two age groups 8-10 and 11-14. Teams will conduct developmental practices once or twice a week with team matches on Saturday. Times and team size & match formats TBD on signup numbers.
Cost: $50 per player
Equipment: Each player must supply their own tennis racquet and a pair of tennis/court shoes (not running shoes). Balls and Uniform Shirts will be supplied.
Coaching: Volunteer coaches will be sought for each team.
Skills Assessment: A skills assessment session will be held in April, before teams are formed to evaluate each player signed up and create well-balanced teams.
