Shenipsit Lake


The following information is provided for your convenience.  Shenipsit Lake is NOT a resource controlled by the Town of Ellington or Ellington Parks and Recreation.

Shenipsit Lake is a reservoir owned and managed by Connecticut Water Company.  As a public drinking water supply, activities in and around the lake are strictly regulated.  Geographically, the lake is located in Ellington, Tolland and Vernon.  The Town of Ellington does not regulate, grant access or otherwise exercise control of the lake.  Property immediately adjacent to the lake is owned by CT Water and NOT the Town of Ellington.

  1. Hiking trails are available around the lake.
  2. Fishing is allowed in designated areas.  The lake is stocked by DEEP.  Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult with a valid fishing license.
  3. Ice fishing is NOT allowed.
  4. Wading into the lake or bodily contact with the water is strictly prohibited.
  5. All boats must be registered with CT Water prior to launching. (Annual lottery system)
  6. Kayaks are NOT allowed.
  7. CT Water lake monitors patrol the lake area.
