Sandy Beach is located on Crystal Lake on Route 140 in the northern end of town. Our beach offers swimming and sunbathing opportunities on hot summer days. The 2023 operating schedule for the beach is weekdays from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on the weekends from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Patrons are called out of the water 15 minutes prior to closing time. Ellington residents may purchase seasonal passes from the Recreation Department at a cost of:
$75 per family (Ellington residents only)

Take 84E to Exit 67. Turn left at bottom of the exit. Go for about mile to intersection of Route 30. Turn right onto Route 30. Go for about 5 or 6 miles on Route 30. Follow signs for Route 20. Road take a sharp left (light at left turn Landmark Leonards Veterinary on corner). Stay on Route 30 until intersection of 140. Turn right at 4 way stop, go straight up hill, Sandy Beach is about a mile up on left hand side.
The Town has upcoming roadwork beginning June 6th: Joel Drive, Cindy Road, Randy Road, Bridge Street, Gloria Lane, Franlee Drive and Punkin Drive will have chipseal applied. Traffic Control will be in place during the application process, between 6:30 am to 3:30 pm (potentially later if there are any weather impacts); no parking on these roadways beginning Monday, June 5th.
