The Ellington Parks and Recreation Department offers many different activities that will keep your family entertained.

Always wanted to go to a concert in the park or a trip out of town? The Parks & Rec Department funds several types of activities that will appeal to anyone.

Special Needs Social Club

This proposed new social activity program, if interest warrants, will be designed for those ages 10+ with developmental/cognitive disabilities. Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of activities and field trips while meeting new friends in this informal, drop-in program. The Fall Cross Country program is designed as a “training program” for the upcoming Ellington and Manchester Road Races, but with an emphasis on fun and exercise!! New and returning coaches are welcome to participate. Please contact Bob Tedford at (860) 870-3118. A participant/parent clinic will be held to provide updated insight on the following: stretching, core drills and nutrition updates.

Outdoor (park) Educational offerings~ Cancelled 9/1/17



Encourage your child to learn about the joys and benefits of gardening, with “hands-on” opportunities while promoting healthy eating habits. Program will utilize gardening, stories and arts & crafts, to allow your child to experience nature while discovering the cycles of life. Age appropriate “cooking” skills will be introduced in order to provide children motivation to try fresh fruits and vegetables while encouraging a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.
Batz Property
Preschool (3-5): 45 minute session for 7 weeks: Fridays: 11:00 am -11:45am
August 19, 26; Sept. 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
Class size: 8-10 maximum;   Fee: $20.00

Age 6-10: 1 hour sessions one week night a week for 6 weeks at the Recreation Dept. @31 Arbor Way. Mondays: Aug. 21, 28; September 11, 18, 25; October 2. And at least one Saturday TBD at the Youth Garden located at the Batz Community Garden at 97 Shenipsit Street in Ellington. 
Class size: 8-10 maximum.  6-7pm   Fee: $20.00

“Learning to Cook”


Encourage your child to learn about the joys and benefits of gardening, with “hands-on” opportunities.  Program will focus on what to do in the garden in the fall. Age appropriate “cooking” skills will be introduced while learning about how to utilize the produce available. This may include things like art projects, composting, gift making and food tasting! 1 hour sessions one week night a week for 7 weeks held at Rec. Dept. with field trips to the Batz Community Garden at 97 Shenipsit Street in Ellington TBD.   Ages 9-12.
Anticipated weeknight schedule to be determined by interest level.  6-7pm  Fee: $20.00
